Athletic Therapy involves the prevention, care, and reconditioning of musculoskeletal injuries. This includes musculoskeletal and postural evaluation, warm-up, conditioning programs, prophylactic or supportive taping, and adapting to the activity environment and facilities.
A Certified Athletic Therapist assesses injuries and conditions, uses rehabilitative techniques, therapeutic modalities, soft tissue mobilization, physical reconditioning, and supportive strapping procedures to promote an environment conducive to optimal healing.
Athletic Therapists are certified and regulated by the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA)
Massage therapy is a comprehensive intervention involving a range of manual techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints. The purpose of massage therapy is to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function or relieve pain. It is a clinically-oriented health option that relieves an array of discomforts stemming from stress, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes.
Registered Massage Therapists in Ontario are certified and regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. (CMTO)
Sport massage is the application of pre-event, post-event, and restoration/training massage to the active person. It may be used on game-day at an event. In clinic Sport Massage focuses on recovery during and after training, the prevention of chronic injuries and aids in the healing process of current injuries. Local teams, clubs and individual athletes can benefit from Sport Massage. It is a highly developed identifiable specialty of Massage Therapy and Sport Massage Therapists are selected to major sports events: Commonwealth Games, Olympics etc.
